How to Configure EZ Watch Pro for Motion Detection Recording

From EZWatch Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

EZ Watch Pro has the capability to 'watch' a camera's video screen and sense motion. This ability allows it to record only when movement occurs on the screen, even if the camera does not have a motion detector of its own. This is a software based detection, meaning if someone moves in front of the camera but the movement cannot be seen on the screen, it will not be recorded - only visble motion will be.

Motion detection recording uses less space on your hard drive because it does not record the blank periods where there is nothing to see. It is highly recommended for all cameras, but be aware that outdoor cameras tend to capture more motion due to foliage swaying in the wind, animals (Wild or pets) moving through the screen, insect activity close to the camera where they may appear larger, and inclement weather.

Setting up the motion detection is quite easy :

Version 3.0/3.1 -

In the bottom-left hand corner of the screen click on the first icon 'Camera Configuration'. On the page that appears click on the 'Recording' tab at the top and ensure that 'Enable Recording Schedule' is selected. Click on Set up Schedule.

On this screen you will see start and end times for the schedule. The top area of the screen is ONLY for adding a new schedule; existing recording schedules appear in the box at the bottom. If any schedules have already been set up, it is wise to remove them before creating a new one.

Since we are entering a motion detection schedule, please ensure that the radial button at the top is set to 'Motion Detection Recording' and not 'Sequence recording'. Sequence recording will record constantly during the scheduled times.

Enter the start and end time for your new schedule. Please note that entering the time is done in military format - Midnight in the morning is 00:00, 11:59PM is 23:59. If you wish to record all day, please enter 00:00 as the start and 23:59 as the end time. Your schedule cannot span multiple days - you cannot have a schedule start at 18:00 and end at 06:00 to record overnight - this will fail. If you wish to span multiple days you must create multiple schedules - one spanning 00:00 to 06:00 and a second spanning 18:00 to 23:59.

Once you have selected the start/end times you must select the days to run this schedule. Every day does the same schedule every single day, while Every Week will let you select which days of the week to run this schedule. If you wish to run one schedule during weekdays and a different schedule during weekends, you will have to create more than 1 schedule and enter them all individually on this screen.

After you have selected the type (Motion Detection recording), selected the times, and selected the days you can click on 'Add' to add it to the active list. The times at the top will reset, this is normal - your new schedule will appear at the bottom of the screen. Click 'OK' or 'EXIT' to return to the camera configuration.

If you wish to copy this schedule to all of your cameras, simply click on 'COPY' at the bottom and select 'All', then hit OK. If you wish to set up a different schedule for each camera, select the camera in the drop-down list and follow the previous instructions to set up a schedule for that camera.

Version 4.0

Within the Main Console, click on the 'Schedule' button at the bottom of the page. On the new page that appears you will see a list of all your cameras and the times they are recording on the window to the right. Times that are set to record constantly appear as a bold red line; times that are set to record on motion detection are a bold green line. You can click and drag the beginning or end of the line left and right to adjust start or end times, and you can create a new schedule in an empty space by clicking and dragging a new line there. By default all cameras will have a bold red (constant recording) line that spans the entire day.

To change a schedule from constant recording to motion detection recording, double-click on the bold red line. A new window will pop up with the video from that camera. In the center about midway down the page is a section marked 'Mode'. Move the dot next to 'Record on Motion'.

Once the dot is on 'Record on Motion', you must select how much of the screen to look for motion on. If you wish to watch the whole screen click on 'All'. The left-hand video window will be covered with a green tint indicating the entire screen is being watched for motion. If you wish to specify a specific area, you may click and drag on the left video screen to form a green rectangle of any size; the system will watch for video within that rectangle. You can draw up to 10 rectangles on the screen.

Once you have selected an area, click on 'OK' at the bottom of the page. Now the line will appear in green indicating the change in mode. You will also note a dotted black line surrounding the bar - this indicates that schedule is currently selected. If you wish to copy that schedule to another camera, simply click on 'Copy To' in the top-left part of this window. It will let you copy the currently selected schedule to all cameras or to any specific camera. Click 'OK' at the bottom to save your settings.
